It all started with...

About

I had dreamt of being a personal trainer since the 90s!  I was an aerobics instructor back in the Taebo days. 😁 (That really dates me!) However, I didn't think that I could have a successful career as a trainer.  Thankfully, God didn't care what I thought!

In 2018, He led me to start Define139 Training and Fitness. The mission was to help other women to define themselves as God does; fearfully and wonderfully made. (Psalm 139:14)

I organized my first boot camp class at a local park on September 10th of that year with two of my friends from high school and my 14 year old daughter.  I think I cleared $75 that first 6 weeks. 🎉

(That was on said daughter's birthday and she now works with me as a coach - and she's AMAZING.)

For about 18 months, Define139 grew into several local boot camps with four different instructors.  In that time, I had also became certified as a personal trainer and I was training clients in a local gym.  I had a handful of people from other states that accessed my workouts online.

Then we all know what happened in March of 2020.  The gyms shut down, along with the world.  We had to quickly transition all of our boot camp members to the online platform.  I honestly didn't have high hopes.  I didn't love social media or the thought about videoing all of my workouts in my den!  Again, God didn't care. 😆

Define139 began growing more rapidly!  Locals who couldn't make it out of their house found connection and community online with our classes.  It was so amazing and fulfilling to witness!

Fast forward about a year and the world was slowly starting to open up.  We were able to make it back to the in-person venues but so many people wanted to remain online!  You gotta give the people what they want!  And surprisingly, I began to LOVE running my business virtually.  I even began accepting personal training clients and training them over FaceTime.

The fall of 2021, after a summer of yet again starving myself and working out an insane amount just to lose a few pounds and then gain it back, I hired an online nutrition coach to help me.  I didn't understand the dieting/nutrition side of things, nor did I realize that my crazy level of activity was not only detrimental to my goals but also a terrible example for my clients and my daughter.

Sarah, who is still my coach today (coaches need coaches too you know), helped to transform my thinking around food and exercise.  I learned that I had never fueled my body with enough food consistently and that I only needed  a fraction of the activity to be successful. Within just a few weeks, I felt amazing and was able to lose a chronic Epstein Barr infection that had plagued me off and on for FOUR years.

It took time, but I was able to repair my metabolism as well as my relationship with food and exercise!  I decided I absolutely had to provide this type of service to my clients and friends.  It seemed that they all struggled with the same diet culture mentality that I had!

In 2022, I became certified as a nutrition coach through the Nutritional Coaching Institute.  I chose this program for myself and for all of our current coaches because it requires its participants to apply the knowledge they have learned to real clients before they earn their certification.  I learned so much!

So now, it is currently the last quarter of 2024.  I call myself and our coaches Online Health Coaches because we really work on total overall health  with our clients.  Our program Metabolic Mapping is the meat and potatoes of Define139 Training and Fitness. It incorporates habit changes, appropriate exercise and sustainable nutrition strategies to take our clients to their goals of forever fat loss.

We get you!

Taking care of my health was not always part of my life.  I know very well what it is like to be overweight, unhealthy and out of shape. I have also been very thin and struggled with an eating disorder and body dysmorphia.  (Praise God for the freedom from that!)

Many of our clients deal with chronic illnesses, injuries or conditions.  In 2008, I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes.  Having Type 1 makes me much more understanding of the challenges that others face on a daily basis.  However, I know from experience that a challenge doesn't equal a death sentence!

As a mom, wife and business owner, I know the value of time!  With Define139, your program will be designed with your schedule in mind. You CAN take the time to care for YOU!
